Alright, alright. I’ll concede to this whole belly pic thing.
I really thought I’d be the type to document my first pregnancy with fun, semi-weekly belly shots, like maybe this one:
But as it turns out, the last thing I want to do is have my picture taken. It also doesn’t help that it’s winter, and my house doesn’t have very good lighting, and our best camera is an 8 MP point and shoot that’s a few years old now. Actually, my iPhone camera is 8MP so we’ve just been using that. Hence the quality of these photos.
So I attempted to start these off in the same outfit, using the nifty chalkboard app on the iPad to document the week.

Obviously the lighting is awful so for the next one (14 weeks), I moved to the dining room for more overhead light.

Yeah, not much better. Turns out, one of the bulbs was blown when this was taken. Oh well.
And that’s pretty much when I gave up on belly shots. At least consistent ones. But just for your personal amusement, here’s one from about 18.5 weeks.

I know, you can’t see anything, but I still like it.
Then there’s THIS one from about 20 weeks that I can’t even believe I’m showing to you guys because OMG THE LUNCH LADY ARMS! But, I love you, so here you go.

Considerably bigger, no? And since I wasn’t really prepared to have my photo taken, you get the awkward I’m-not-wearing-a-bra-stance. It’s also taken at a weird angle because my husband is quite a bit taller than me. And when he saw me in my super tight yoga pants, belly bulging, he was all “WOW! You’re really showing! Let’s take a picture!” At least I managed to smile. Fake as it may be.
But for a more accurate account of what you might see if you know me IRL, and you’re about as tall as the Lollipop Guild, I took this today – at 22 weeks:

And here’s another, from the other side.

I’m starting to warm up to the idea of professional maternity photos, since I’m obviously horrible at taking decent shots myself, but we’ll see. I kind of like these shots:
Or these:
But that would require planning, scheduling, etc. So like I said, we’ll see.

You look great, lady!
I opted not to have a professional maternity shoot, but had my husband take pictures instead. It was a lot more enjoyable than a pro shoot would have been, and he did a good job at making me feel pretty when I felt like a whale.
Great idea! Did you ever post them on your blog? Would love to see them!
You look awesome!!!! I think my fav part of being prego is getting the bump big enough to where people actually notice!
I did maternity photos and while I”m glad I did them, I’ve done nothing with the them. Once the baby arrives you only want pix up of the babeh, so they’re just stored in my album. But I really loved being prego and like to look at them. This pregnancy is a little diff, it’s never as much fun the second time around when you’ve been there done that and have a toddler to chase around!
Aw, thank you! I doubt I’d be putting maternity photos of me on the mantel or something, but a few nice looking photos to remember the experience by would be nice. Maybe I just need a friend with a good camera to take some snaps for me.
You look beautiful in your shots.. low image quality but beautiful nonetheless :)
That’s so sweet! You’re a liar, but a sweet liar. :) Kidding! Thank you!
Yay! So glad you shared these. I see you on a fairly regular basis but I’m glad you are posting them!
We did not do maternity photo shoots and I wish we would have. Sometimes they can be cheesy, but not if you find a good photographer.
My friend that’s getting married has a really good photog that also has maternity/newborn packages. Might just do a package so I can have both. Definitely want some good newborn shots.
You look great! I know you probably don’t believe it when people say that, but it’s true. I wouldn’t lie to ya! That pic of you and your husband on New Years is such a good one. I know you may not want to answer, but have you gained much weight so far? I would recommend doing the maternity shoot, you might not want it now but looking back I bet you would want them.
Thanks girlfriend! I’ve gained about 14lbs so far. Not horrible, but I’ve still got a long way to go.
I was iffy with wanting professional pics done. I did the almost weekly pics myself. I Just never felt “cute” even when people said it. As long as you don’t do the guazy semi nude maternity pic I think it is all good!
You look great. SUPER cute. And even if the pictures you’re taking aren’t high-quality or whatever, you’ll still be so glad you have them. Especially when you look back on the early weeks and realize how tiny you were even though you felt huge. :)
Yay baby!
Yep, this just confirms my suspicions, you make an absolutely adorable pregnant woman (DAMMIT!) Thanks for sharing these awesome pics :)
Very cute-love that you’re showing! Belly pics are SO hard, when I first got prego,I was like I’m doing that every week…yeah, not so much! Plus I don’t really feel like I’m showing! DH and friends say that I am, I say that I just look fat. Happy Baby Bump!
