Friday night we found out that two of our neighbors were having yard sales on Saturday morning so we took advantage of the guaranteed traffic thanks to all of their Craigslist promotions and signage, and threw together our own yard sale. The weather was simply perfect for it too.
It’s amazing what stuff people will buy. Things that I thought would sell – like a full length mirror or kitchen chandelier – didn’t sell at all. But things like an extra large purple sweatshirt or a 2x long-sleeve jean shirt – things I thought I’d have to just donate to GoodWill – sold like hotcakes. Odd. Still, we ended up making about $90 and at the same time, got rid of some junk that was just cluttering our closets. Win-Win!
I participated in a yard sale once and it was a lot of work. I had to price crap, run around the neighborhood hanging up signs and then only sold about twenty bucks worth of stuff all day. My friend who had a ton of baby items, she made over $200.
Toward the end of Saturday I decided to screw the Sunday sale. The idea was to get rid of crap and I wasn’t making any money, so as soon as we closed up shop I drove to Goodwill to make a large donation.
I did get rid of a ton of little items by having a fit-as-much-as-you-can-into-a-plastic-bag-for-two-dollars sale.
Isn’t it amazing what people will buy? At my MIL’s house once, someone bought 1980s lingerie.
WTF!
We are having a sale this Saturday at my parents… a combo of my stuff, my brothers, my mom’s and my grams. I’m curious as to what will sell and what won’t!
Miss you!
Oh, I <3 yard sales!
I had my first this year and made $140 :o)
