My birthday was last Thursday. It came and went with little fan fare. I woke up to a card and a present from the hubs (Ralph Lauren Summer Romance perfume), fresh bagels at work from the boss, and a delicious steak dinner complete with a DQ ice cream cake from my mom. The next day after work, we packed up the car and headed out-of-town. We stayed at my grandma’s in Southern Illinois for a night, then moved east to visit with the inlaws. It’s a bit of a haul – 8 hours total – so we didn’t get there until about 5:30 pm. I knew hubby’s uncle was visiting from Atlanta so I expected an extra vehicle in the driveway. What I didn’t expect was the dozen or so people in the backyard, the balloons and decorations, the BBQ burgers, hot dogs, chicken, and side dishes, the giant sheet cake and ice cream, or the table of presents. My inlaws threw me a surprise birthday party! They even parked their cars in the backyard so I wouldn’t see them when we pulled up. I was completely stunned and incredibly humbled by the gesture. I didn’t really care about turning 28, so I didn’t expect anyone else to care that much either. We had a great time enjoying the new porch that my FIL spent the last several weeks building. The surprise party had him working extra hard to finish it in time, so I felt even more gratitude knowing he worked so hard to make it happen. It makes me regret leaving my camera at home. Hopefully someone from the party will send me some photos soon.
The rest of the weekend went by much too quickly. I slept in on Saturday while the hubs got some father/son time in playing golf. Then we spent the afternoon at my SIL’s house to commence the opening of her pool. That night we met up with hubby’s aunt at the favorite local pizza joint and spent the rest of the evening hanging with my niece and two nephews. Then it was back on the road again on Monday. I really should’ve taken Tuesday off to get some things done around the house, but fortunately the weekend will be here again before I know it. I can’t believe it’s already June. My calendar is filling up as quickly as my to-do list and I just know the summer will be over in the blink of an eye. Hate that. I’ll be lucky if I get just two pool days in this month. If only time could just slow down enough to let me catch up and enjoy it.
Hope everyone had an enjoyable Memorial Day weekend! I know I did.
