WARNING: This post is TMI. Feel free to skip it if “ovulation” and “conception” details make you squirmy. Also, if you work with me or see me in person, let’s pretend you don’t know this stuff, ok? Ok.
This post was written on Sept. 8, which, coincidentally was our 7 year “meet day” anniversary. Also realized that I had not set this up at all, so background: I went off of BC in May. Figured we should wait a couple of cycles until we start trying to conceive. We did, and around the third cycle, we sort of winged it with disappointing results. So I got serious about this baby-making business and started trying to figure out exactly when I ovulate instead of just guessing based on “typical” time frames. (Can you tell I’m not really a patient person?)
I bought these ovulation test strips and I’ve been peeing in a cup and waiting for these stupid strips to show two lines for WEEKS now. Ok, maybe it’s only been a week and a half, but it feels like at least 3. Anyway, last night after another half-hearted pee-and-wait game, the strip came back with two solid looking lines. I had left it sit there for awhile while we watched an episode of Dexter so I thought maybe I had just waited too long to check it, so I did it all over again with a new strip and again, two solid lines. I was suddenly bouncing off the walls thinking “I’m ovulating! I’m ovulating!” and rushed downstairs to start getting the idea in the hubby’s head that yes, there would be some action tonight, though being very sensitive to the supposed “pressure” guys claim to feel when their wife starts urging them to perform because “it’s time.”
And then, just for good measure, I tested again in the morning. The test results came back with two solid lines again, and I had some “physical symptoms” of ovulation, so all signs are pointing to good timing. This also means that I don’t ovulate in the typical 10-14 day time period, but instead ovulate around the 19th day.
Now, fingers crossed that it actually worked.
Spoiler alert: It did!
