I was reminded again today of how very fortunate I am to have my health. I know a few folks around my age, or younger, dealing with some pretty serious health issues and I am so very blessed. A person’s health is perhaps the easiest thing to take for granted. But the unthinkable can happen in an instant and suddenly your life is filled with doctor’s appointments and surgeries and a whole lot of “what ifs” about the future. In the last 17 months, to the day actually, I’ve watched my grandpa die of cancer and my MIL lose her battle with MS. And now I see people my age, and some younger than me, needing surgeries and chemotherapy and it’s just…too much to comprehend. I put myself in their shoes and it’s devastating. I can’t imagine it. I hope I never have to.
Good health doesn’t last forever. We all get old and bad things happen, but if there’s one thing I’m truly thankful for this year – more than anything else – it’s my health and the health of my family.
